Creating Workflows in Cove
Updated over a week ago

Cove workflows are a powerful way to generate content, process information and automate work. They can handle any type of content (text, tables, PDFs, images, URLs) and can even perform web searches on your behalf.

Workflows consist of a series of connected cards. For each card, Cove is able to execute instructions and pass the output to other cards. This creates a flexible system where information can branch, reform and evolve to do a variety of tasks.

Try one of our sample workflows below and check out our Gallery for more inspiration.

How to create a workflow

Workflows typically start with one or more cards which serve as initial inputs. Inputs could be a PDF, image, URL or an empty text card for the user to fill in. For example, lets create a workflow which takes a YouTube video and creates a lesson plan for a teacher. First create a URL card which is where we will input the link to the YouTube video.

Continue to build out your workflow by creating additional cards. For each card provide instructions and connect them to other cards with @Mentions. For example, lets add a new card for the lesson plan. Simply create a card with the title “Lesson plan using @YouTube Link”.

You can run the workflow at any time. Simply fill in any inputs and then click “Do Updates”. Cove will automatically refresh the space. You can re-run workflows by simply changing any of the inputs and clicking “Do Updates” again.

Tip: You can even create simple forms to your workflow by adding input fields by selecting “Add Input field.” Cove will automatically provide a downdrop menu of options to choose from.

Tip: You can further customize workflows by providing additional guidance to cards. In the below example, the lesson plan will be created using the outline provided as well as the class information.
